Getting started

From install to your first agent session.

Prepare pi locally, then run pi-web in the folder where work should happen.

1 · Install pi · Node.js 24+
npm install -g @earendil-works/pi-coding-agent
New pi-web session with working directory and prompt composer
A new session in the real responsive pi-web interface.

Local setup

Prepare pi. Then start pi-web.

01

Install pi

Run in your terminal
npm install -g @earendil-works/pi-coding-agent

pi is the supported harness today.

02

Open pi and sign in

pi
/login

Complete provider login inside pi, then exit it. Authentication belongs to the harness, not pi-web.

03

Start pi-web in your workspace

Run in your terminal
npx -y @ashwin-pc/pi-web@latest

Run it from the folder where work should happen, or set PI_WEB_CWD=/path/to/workspace.

04

Open the workspace

http://127.0.0.1:8787

pi-web uses the local harness you already installed and authenticated.

There is no hosted account or relay in this setup. As additional harnesses arrive, the boundary stays the same: install and sign in to the harness locally first, then let pi-web work through it.

Optional remote access

Bring your own secure path.

Optional bearer token
PI_WEB_TOKEN="$(openssl rand -hex 32)" npx -y @ashwin-pc/pi-web@latest

Use Tailscale or an HTTPS reverse proxy you control. A bearer token protects app requests; it does not replace transport security.

Ready?

Run it where the work lives.
